Leaving Club For Prep Or Hockey Academies
« on: June 05, 2019, 10:53:52 AM »
So how many kids are leaving CA club hockey this upcoming season for prep schools or for hockey academies? And what specific schools and academies are they joining?

Not sure on the numbers but they seem to be doing something right up in Tahoe. Appear to be signing quality players.

Tahoe Prep has really been going in a great direction. They have a slew of AAA kids signed and their kids growth is amazing. Props to them doing great work up there.

From the three 04 AAA teams and Bears 04 AA team, I've heard at least 23 kids are leaving California to play hockey this coming year. Some to AAA teams in Canada and Michigan, others to hockey academies (Delta, EHP), lots to prep schools (Choate, Bishop's, Hill, Portsmouth Abbey, Kent, Northfield Mount Hermon), and few to prep-academy programs (Mt St Charles, Culver, South Kent).  I have heard some 04s from other teams also leaving, and several left last year (Shattuck, Okanagan).  That's about 30 04s gone.

Well done CAHA take a bow. Keep driving kids away from CA.

Post has been removed. Let's keep it hockey-related and not discuss the personal lives of minor children. Has the poster been censored? Yes. While we want this to be a forum for open hockey discussion, we should simply use our better judgement as adults and not discuss the most personal aspects of a child's life.
D'oh! That sounds about right. Seems like lots of misfits end up going to THA as they've burned all their bridges with their local club. Find it interesting beginning August 2020 THA will have a women's volleyball program.

Note: Post has been edited to remove comments on children's private lives. Let's try to keep it hockey-related. -Admin

On THA's website, they show "Tuition is $47,500 for domestic students. $57,500 for international students. Scholarships and financial aid are available."
Last season one kid I know was getting a HUGE discounts to attend.

Better choice is St. Mary's Preparatory High School Hockey.
Last season Full Tuition $21,500 - Included School tuition, hockey coaching, services, and housing (Billets).
Day Program: $16,500 - Included: School tuition, hockey coaching, and services.
Plus Extra Charges for the meal plan on campus at Saint Mary

First of all your kid will Billet in Stockton. Yes the murder capital of CA.

Second the program is brand new and struggled playing at The Ducks HS leaguer never mind was just killed at all their East coast trips.  weekends.

Plus you have Billet fees and you don't know what kind of Billets your kid will get. I know a kid on the team that was one of their top kids who is leaving after just one year.

Good grief. For those $$$ you can go to almost any prep school/hockey academy in N America. That seems to be the sales pitch. Struggling to see what the angle is here.
